The resource is segments, not minutes

After the prologue, Coen has 30 days and 30 nights to rescue his family from Brencis. The clock is not real-time. Rebel Wolves described the loop as a narrative sandbox: if you only wander, watch, and listen, the sun can stay where it is. You move time by choosing to intervene.

Spend rules (checked Sep 4, 2026):

  • 8 daytime segments and 8 nighttime segments per cycle
  • Costs are whole numbers, never fractions
  • The hourglass on a choice is the cost preview
  • Exploration, ordinary combat, and most conversation are free
  • Shrines can Wait, which burns leftover pips in the current phase

A published example: on day 11 at night with 4 pips left, a 3-segment camp objective leaves 1 pip before day 12.

Use the story clock planner to keep a running remainder.

Day and night are different maps of the same valley

Time of day changes who is outside, which shops are open, and how a quest can be solved.

  • Day: more people, vendors, hexes, pacifist options in some encounters, Ancient Circles and Haunted Sites
  • Night: closed shops, empty streets, vampire traversal, scouting towers, companion work such as Lacra's sunset-locked missions

Doing the "same" quest at night is often not the same quest. Enemy placement, dialogue, and objectives can swap. If a character only exists in one phase, you cannot bank that beat for "later today."

How to prioritize

  1. Read the hourglass before the flavor text. A free-looking errand that costs 3 night segments is expensive.
  2. Pay for information early. Clues that unlock a shorter route to the family or the court are worth more than a combat upgrade you can farm without a clock cost.
  3. Keep a night reserve for hunger and vertical map. Shadowstep and towers open geography. Starving Coen can delete a quest giver.
  4. Do not sequence-break by accident. Romance and court chains can be phase-gated. If you care about Lacra, schedule nights instead of dumping them into camps.
  5. Infamy is a hidden tax. Acting loudly in the valley can make later travel more dangerous as Brencis tightens control. Quiet days still exist because walking is free.

What we will not invent

Full quest lists, exact segment costs for every chain, and ending flowcharts need playthrough verification beyond this homepage pass. When a cost is shown in-game, log it. If a guide here states a number, it comes from publisher/studio material or dated coverage, not from a guessed wiki table.

One sourced 100% pattern

LunarGaming (Sep 2, b2Xb3lwCFMo), not a studio doc:

  1. Finish the prologue.
  2. Push the main / court path until the final mission, then manual save.
  3. Spend leftover days on side content.
  4. Manual save again.
  5. Either take the finale and save the family, or let the calendar close and keep roaming (PowerPyx: Time Runs Out still lets you free-roam; In the Nick of Time dies).

That is a save strategy, not a promise you can 100% the valley in 480 segments. You cannot.

Next: day and night builds.
