Daytime loop

Day combat is directional. You attack and defend in four directions, in the same family as Kingdom Come. An optional omniattack/omniblock assist exists if you do not want the full directional discipline.

Successful blocks, attacks, and parries build Activation Charges. Spend them on:

  • Hexes (Burning Blood is the public example: damage over time)
  • Executions and other active abilities shown in the gameplay reveal

There is no mana bar. If you are not winning the direction game, you will not have charges when you need a hex.

Practice in unmarked fights. Those do not spend the clock. Save hourglass encounters for when the loop is in your hands.

Nighttime loop

Night drops the sword kit for claws, bites, and short teleports. You still have a stamina/positioning problem, plus hunger.

Traversal is part of the fight:

  • Shadowstep for gaps and surprise angles
  • Planeshift for walls and ceilings
  • Clawride for vertical drops onto camps

A night fight you cannot disengage from is a hunger fight. If the nearest "food" is a named human, you already lost the encounter.

Blood hunger

Published notes are consistent on the failure state: if Coen does not feed, he can lose control and kill the nearest human, including quest givers.

Safer valves:

  • Animals
  • Enemies you already intend to kill
  • A planned feed before a social night (Lacra, court, vendors that somehow still matter after dusk)

Do not enter a populated street at high hunger. The wiki will not list an exact hunger meter threshold until we can screenshot the live UI.

Skills worth buying first

  1. Whatever makes the directional loop reliable (assist toggle if you need it, otherwise footwork)
  2. One charge spender you understand in a 10-second window (Burning Blood is the documented starter hex)
  3. One night traversal skill that opens scouting towers
  4. A feeding-related passive or routing habit, even if it is not a skill node

Leave prestige night damage and deep hex trees until the clock says you still have a coronation buffer.

Major encounters

Treat anything with an hourglass as a build check, not a discovery fight. Manual save. Confirm phase (hexes vs claws). Confirm hunger. Confirm a retreat path that does not run through civilians.

The first-hour version of this discipline is in the beginner guide.

Fextralife (Sep 3): weapon arts are their own spend, not the same as a hex. Direction of the swing still matters when omniassist is off. Official overview Part I (ro8psdfcxJE) is the cleanest footage of both loops.
